gut health

gut brainWe have two brains, one we can call Hubert that lives in our head and another we can call Gertrude that lives largely in our gut.

They both work in the same way with trillions of cells which can communicate with each other like a super computer so they have intelligence and can learn.

Hubert is an extrovert and thinks about things from how to mend the shower curtain to how to make a space ship while Gertrude is so shy we don’t even know she is there but she makes sure our bodies are working properly

But the do very different jobs. Our head brain works on external problems – anything from how to fix the shower curtain to how to build a space ship. It is very obvious that it is working on these problems.

Our gut brain looks after our body, everything from making us puff and pant as we walk up a hill to controlling our diet.

Hubert is so busy on a pet project that he wont bother to eat so Gertrude has to send a message saying you are hungry and need to eat

Hubert knows we need energy so he goes to the shop and buys a giant cheese cake which he starts stuffing in his mouth.

Gertrude knows this is very bad but she controls taste so after a bit the cheese cake does not taste so good.

Gertrude understands that our bodies are made up of trillions of cells which die so we need to replace them.

She has learned which minerals are needed and which foods contain them – so she makes Hubert crave that food.

This is pretty smart but it only works if she is healthy herself from eating the right sort of food that suits her.

Our gut is part of our intelligent control system that control our appetite, what and how much we eat, refurbishing our body parts as they age and wear and hosting much of our immune system.

This trillions of cells in our guts talk to each other like cells in a super computer controlling much of our automatic control system.

They control our appetite telling how much and what to eat.

They manage how our bodies replenish our part over time and they host much of our immune system.

If we do not have a healthy gut we will not be healthy so we need to feed our gut the right sort of food.

There are trillions of microbes in our gut comprising thousands of species, feed it right we get the good species – feed it wrong we get the bad species.

The microbes in our gut do not live very long – may be just a few days, they are continuously eating and breeding. The species that dominate depend on what we feed them. If we feed them sugar we end up with sugar loving microbes.

But we also get new microbes in the food we eat. Microbes live in the soil and particularly in the guts of creatures that live in the soil. They can move into the roots of the plants that we eat then into us where they replenish our store of microbes.

The biology in our gut come originally from the soil and creatures in the soil

Plants capture energy from the sun and carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to create the sugars which drive the entire life process. The plants exude sugars from their roots which attract and feed the soil biology.

This can enter the plants which we eat to regenerate the biology on our guts acting as pro-biotics while the plants themselves provide food for our Gut Biota allowing them to breed and grow – natural pre-biotics.

There are beneficial and harmful biology in the soil, which survive depends on the conditions in a natural Eco-system.

The biology and creatures in the soil have short lives and breed rapidly. If the conditions favour the harmful biology they will out breed the beneficial biology and we will become sick.

If the conditions favour the beneficial biology they will triumph leading to better health for us.

Moisture and minerals are critical and are a key part of the Gbiota technology.

energy food

Sugars, fats and carbs contain carbon and hydrogen which we burn to make energy.

C + H + O = CO2 + H2O + energy

The world produced enough energy food, sugars, fats and carbs to feed the entire world population now and well into the future – if equitably distributed.

But in wealthy countries this leads to an epidemic of chronic diseases associated with overeating energy food particularly diabetes, dementia and heart attacks.

For every person that dies from Covid there are one hundred that get diabetes (let alone heart attacks and dementia).

There is more to food than calories – modern food is empty calories.

We are not the person we used to be – every three months much of our body is rebuilt.

Our bodies do not stay the same, from birth they are continuously growing but even when we reach maturity the material in our body is continuously being replaced.

This requires much more than calories and protein but also minerals, vitamins and beneficial biota.

These comes from the food we eat, either directly but our gut reprocess this food into the highly complex chemicals our bodies need.

That is why we need to supplement our diet with plants grown in soil rich in beneficial biota and minerals.

donkey

Where do we buy gut food for Gertrude? By setting up a supplementary local Gbiota food system.

We know we need to feed Gertrude – (our gut brain), the food she needs. But how do we do that? We can’t just be just a dumb donkey and wait for the super markets to fill their shelves with gut brain food.

Lets face facts – there is no mega corporation whose focus is on profits for their shareholders, which is going to set up a local gut food system.

They can make far more money supplying us with mass produced energy food which they do very well. Neither can we look to the pharmaceutical industry to supply us with magic pills and potions.

We simply need to follow the formulae which has evolved over millions of years and eat food grown in soil full of beneficial biota and nutrients.

There are thousands of growers both amateur home growers and commercial growers who would be more than happy to adopt regenerative farming practices and supply us with gut food – but how do we persuade them to set up Gbiota beds and how do we distribute the food in a way that keeps costs low? By the power of the wallet.

group

We have to rely on people who believe that their health and the sustainability of our food system is more important that short term profits.

It just takes on local person to say I am going to be a local gut food leader. Just one person can contact their friends and ask them to contact their friends, tell them the story of gut food and form a group.

Once they have a group they have the power of the wallet, the group leader can then recruit local growers and organise shopping trips to go around the various growers and either deliver to the homes of group members or set up a local pick up point.

They can obviously expect the group to support the group leader financially, everyone needs money, but the motivation in the health of the group and the sustainability of our food system.

Please note in the Gbiota system consumers buy directly from growers and we do not become involved in the commercial transaction, we provide support for both local leaders and growers and we expect growers to subscibe.  We may not be a ‘for profit’ operation but we still have costs to cover.
