We need gut food growers

local couumunityThe purpose of the Gbiota local food movement is to help people set up viable, ethical, and sustainable businesses supplying their local community with gut food.

To understand why this is important we need to understand about gut biology or Gbiota.

Our gut is made up from trillions of cells comprising thousands of species. Each cell communicates with neighbouring cells to form a real brain with intelligence – our gut brain.

swarm intelligenceThere is a phenomena called swarm intelligence – no one really understands how it works – but we know it does work. One cell may have virtually zero intelligence, just a simple on off switch, but put trillions of these together they form a super intelligence. We see this in slime moulds, ants, bees and other insects and anything that forms swarms.

Our gut is much more than a bit of biology that helps us digest our food, it is a genuine brain which works with our head brain to controls our body – our intelligent control system.

gut brain connectionIt controls our appetite deciding what and how much we eat. It controls where and how much fat we store. We need to store fat and that is what our bums are for but if our intelligent controls system is not working we will store excess fat elsewhere in our bodies particularly around our vital organs. Excess storage of fat, in the wrong place, is the prime cause of diseases like diabetes, heart disease and dementia.

fat and skinny miceSwapping gut biology in both mice and humans (by faecal transplant) will make both mice and humans either fat or skinny.

The root cause of why people get sick and fat is that their intelligent control system (our gut brain) is not working as it should, typically because in our modern diet we are simply not feeding it the right sort of gut food. The solution is to fix the root cause – feed our guts (and avoid the modern curse of hormonal disrupters).

Just cutting down on calories is not a solution – fancy diets may be fashionable but they don’t work long term.

And that is why we really need local gut food growers – interested email me here.

immune systemBut our intelligent gut does much more – it produces many of the complex chemicals which are needed to replace our body parts as they age and it also is a major component in our immune system protecting us from infections.

sprayingOur gut biology starts in the soil which for millions of years has been full of biology and minerals which has ensured that we and all animals have had a healthy gut.

In just one generation modern industrial chemical agriculture has depleted much of the beneficial biology and mineral in the soil which for thousands of generations have given us a healthy gut.

forest litterHomo sapiens, the wise ape, now has to change that so we go back to the era of biologically active mineral rich soil to grow the plants which become loaded with the beneficial biology and minerals which are essential for our health.

And it is not difficult – we just have to study how soils were formed in the natural environment to learn how to reproduce that process which we can do very easily by breeding the biology in food waste and adding the essential minerals. This give us the soil to grow the plants which lead to a healthy gut biology.

But not everyone can do this, they may not have the land, time or experience to grow their own soil. So we need Gbiota growers who can grow this soil for their community, they can put this into boxes to grow plants which people can harvest while genuinely fresh in their own home, even if they live in an apartment with no garden.

You can read all about this on this web but the first step is to register as a community grower so we can help you set up your business operation – whether just a home gardener or a commercial grower.

If you just want to be a customer and have bioboxes delivered to your home with plants already growing you should register as a consumer and we will try and put you in touch with a local grower.
