Time machineTake a trip back in time in our Tardis – life was not wonderful it was short and brutish

Oh dear – the world seem full of fake news that is just total rubbish.

The good old days are just a myth.

Look at the facts, in the good old days for every five babies born three would die before they reached five, and another one would die before their early twenties – now the majority of babies will live into old age. Good old days – bah humbug.

OK we have problems now, like global warming and soil degradation which threatened our food supply – but these are man made problems and we have the technology to fix them.

We just need the skills and will to apply the technology. This web is all about applying technology to benefit the community.

Life has got better for us humans for two reasons – we are a clever and innovative creature and we are also cooperative working together for the benefit of the community – well mostly.

This web is about the technology of how to sustainably grow food which will enable us to live longer and healthier lives.

Fire

Cooking

Fire led us to evolve big brains and small guts. But sitting around a fire at night, chatting away, sharing knowledge and stories – free from marauding animals – led us to evolve into an intensely social animal.

It all started way back in time when we learned to manage fire and cook food which made it more digestible. This led to us evolving much smaller guts and a bigger brain which enabled us to invent more things.

Our guts are incredibly small for a creature of our size – compared with a cow which is just a giant gut with four legs attached.

We have continued to invent better ways of growing food but like all technologies sometimes we just get it plain wrong and at other times technology is not used for the benefit of the community but is just used to make a few rich and powerful people yet more richer and powerful.

This web is based on the basic principle that technology, particularly food technology should work for the benefit of the people – we all have to eat.

In our sister web gbiota.com we look at the technology of growing food, in this web we look at how to apply that technology for the benefit of the community – we hope you can join us.

Why, what and how?

Why?

We are not short of food

Food shortageLet us get the facts straight – we are not facing a simple food crisis.

In my life time the worlds population has increased by a factor of three yet we have increased simple food production by a factor of 4.3 we are increasing our food supply almost 50% faster than the increase in population – we are not short of calories – we actually waste 30% of the food we produce which goes into landfill creating green house gases.

It is not an issue of quantity it is a question of quality.

The problem is we need more than calories – we need minerals, vitamins and living biology in plants.

And that bio, the bit that makes up Gbiota, short for Gut biota is the most important of all because it is key to our intelligent control system which manages our bodies –

controlling our appetite so we don’t overeat and get sick, replacing our body parts as they wear and age and particularly hosting much of our immune system so we can better fight off infections like Covid.

diabetesOur modern food is making us fat and sick.

We have made amazing progress in fighting infectious diseases, despite Covid. Our problem is non-infectious disease. For every person that died from Covid there are one hundred people who suffer from diabetes which directly links to the sort of food we eat. And that is without considering the other non-infectious diseases like heart attacks and dementia.

We have become obsessed by calories and forgotten about feeding our gut brain and intelligent control system. If our our brain senses we are lacking critical parts in our diet it will simply tell us we are not satisfied so we eat more – and if that more is sugary fatty food full of calories – we get fat and sick.

We simply have to break this cycle.

The single most important thing to understand about food

jelly fishMost people can tell the difference between a human and a jelly fish.

But what is the real difference?

Humans have two types of brain, our thinking brain that lets you read this and understand what I am trying to say and another hidden brain, largely based in our gut which controls how our body works.

pizzaOur hidden brain wins

We may use our thinking brain to go on some fancy diet to loose weight thinking it will make us healthy but if our hidden brain decides – for some reason – we need to store more food then we are likely to end up storing more food. Motto – don’t stuff with your gut brain.

So we have to feed our gut biology the sort of food that will lead to it thinking that there is no need to store more food. And anyone can tell what our hidden or gut brain is thinking by how hungry we feel – does our gut brain say ‘just eat one more slice of pizza’ or does it say ‘ you are full stop eating’.

It is as simple as that.

What?

chemical industrial farmingEnergy food is simply not enough

What we have to do is equally simple. The bulk of the food we eat is burned for energy. Basically calorie food contain carbon and hydrogen and we burn this to form carbon dioxide and water and lots of energy.

We are doing a great job of that so we don’t have to change the entire world food system, what we do have to do is supplement our food system with the food that contain the beneficial biology, minerals, vitamins and complex chemicals, the phyto-nutrients which will give us healthy bodies.

pillsFood not pills

And we know exactly how to do that – we have been doing it for hundreds of thousands of years (without spending a fortune on supplementary pills).

That is part of the problem – we evolved over this expanse of time with an abundant supply of this biological and nutrient rich food, it was growing all around us but in that natural environment there was a chronic shortage of sugary fatty food which is full of calories so we evolved to have a craving for sugary fatty foods.

gbiota bedWe cannot blame the modern food industry for supplying the food that we crave – but humans are a smart and creative creature and now we have to adapt to the changed situation.

I am an innovator (Read My story) and my contribution is the development of the Gbiota system which breeds beneficial biology in food waste, maintains the critical moisture level by a combination of partial flood and drain and wicking action to create that Goldilocks moisture level, not too wet and not too dry which allows the beneficial biology to breed – and break down the essential minerals we need to create a rich and natural soil.

These enter the plants by osmosis so they end up as natural pre and pro biotics full of phytonutrients.

farmers marketThere is no magic in this – we are just learning from the natural world and the process of evolution.

The trap, which the modern food industry had fallen into, is that the minute a plant is harvested the beneficial biology start to decay so we need to eat the plants shortly after they are picked. This is why we need local growers and why I developed the Gbiota Bioboxes so people can have access to fresh plants growing in their own home.

How?

Tim SpectorGut biology – the hot topic – read what the experts say

The first step is for people to understand the importance of their gut brain and their intelligent control system. Fortunately gut biology has become one of the really hot areas in health research and there are literally thousands of books and paper written on this by reputable researchers in the field – I give a brief overview in my latest video.

But as Brittney Higgens said – we want action not words. And the action is going to be driven by people, ordinary people not big business, or Governments or the giant food industry – just people showing they want to have access to gut food in a convenient way and at an affordable price.

iconsThis is me and I matter

That is why I created the map where people can register and create their own icon showing that they want to buy food that will make them healthy by feeding their guts and providing the complex minerals, vitamins and phytonutrients essential for health.

Anyone can then go to this web site, look at the map and see the icons and see that there is a significant demand in this local area. This is all for free.

money powerWe are at war, not between the East and the West but between the philosophy that humans are just motivated by greed and the philosophy that humans are a cooperative and caring creature. Who wins determines our future.

What happens next is one of a most interesting social experiment. Classic economic theory says that people are motivated by money and power and will adopt the action that will give them the most money and power for the minimum of effort.

I accept that unfortunately that this may be true of some people – hopefully a small minority.

My view of humanity is totally different. Don’t write me off as some naive optimist – just look at the facts. Humans are the dominant species on earth for two simple reasons – we are smart and innovative and we are cooperative. All the great things that humans have achieved is because we work together cooperatively – it is build into the DNA of the vast majority of humans.

So may be just one person, or may be several people will look at the map and see all these people wanting access to gut food and say what can I do to make this happen?

And the answer is they can form a group, a cooperative group that can work with growers to persuade them that there is a market for gut food so the growers can do what they want to do, improve their soils and grow plant for their local community and they can help organise the distribution of food to the group.

food distributionWe need leaders to form and run local groups so customers can buy directly from growers

This is important because some 80% of the cost of food is in distribution and marketing so the group can not just have access to gut food but it will actually cost lest than conventional food.

Now the people that form and run the group can reasonably be expected to earn money from helping to run the group is fair enough – but the prime motivation is that they are helping to create a cooperative society.

This is where I hope to prove the economic rationalist wrong.

Let us face facts – I do not do all the work on experimenting with growing systems and running these webs to make money. I know I have skills in this area and want to use my skills to create a more healthy and harmonious world. I have a strong believe that technology should be used for the benefit of society and not just make money for a handful of people.

beliefs

But I am Colin from technology and not Colin from Marketing. But let us say that I could just convince say a dozen people, who had a similar view on the cooperative nature of humans but with a different skills set to me, then they could create their own local groups.

Then once people see the benefits others would be converted so each of those original early dozen would create another dozen people with a similar conviction and soon we would have a mass movement which would show what people can do when they really cooperate to achieve a common aim.

We live in difficult times – our technology gives us enormous power.

If the belief that we are just a selfish and greedy creature wins then our technology will trash our planet and destroy our means of survival. It will be an unprecedented disaster.

If the belief that we are a cooperative and caring creature wins then out technology will enable us to live a well fed, happy and harmonious life together.

If you share my beliefs and have any interest in helping setting up local groups as a local leader please contact me.
