Members can be either growers or consumers (biofoodies). The biofoodies use Gbiota Wicking boxes which enable them to grow plants with minimal effort even if they live is apartments. These Wicking boxes have two compartments – one for water and the other for the growing medium -a type of soil called Wickimix which they can buy from the growers.

This soil, called Wickimix is produced by growers in raised Gbiota beds made from organic waste, manures, volcanic rock dust and inoculants with a controlled moisture level using pulsed flood and drain irrigation to obtain the Goldilocks moisture level.

The aim is to create the right conditions so the beneficial microbes simply out compete and out breed the pathogens which are just a fact of life. This is the principle of ecological balance as opposed to the conventional practise of trying to kill off the pathogens with toxic chemicals which inevitably harm the beneficial microbes.

People can join by going to the community section in the menu. Generally they will form or join a local group to work with growers on the supply of Wickimix for their Gbiota Wicking boxes or completed boxes ready for consumption if they prefer.

These local groups can share information what are the best plants to grow in their region in that season. There are literally thousands of edible plants with reputedly specific health benefits, sometimes scientifically verified sometimes by traditional experience.

In either case it is widely recognised that variety is the key to a healthy gut and that is obtained by eating a wide variety of plants.

While membership is free for the Biofoodies the growers pay a subscription for training and to support experimentation into the art and technology of growing plants to enhance the gut micro-biome.

A key focus of the Gbiota movement is to create a sustainable food system by recycling waste food and other organic waste by all members working cooperatively together and supporting the local growers as independent business providing a local social service as financially viable and stable operations in times of increasing environment pressure.

The mother web site gbiota.com has three main sections,

Community takes you to the social media site where members can exchange information and form groups or forums. Geolocation is being set up so members can readily locate other local members.

Forming these local gut food communities is critical to the success of the Gbiota project so members are expected to invite their friends and contacts to join their local community, email invites can be automatically sent out directly from the social media site.
